FW 2020 Ready-to-Wear

Since his appointment at the helm of the Carolina Herrera label two years ago, Wes Gordon has consistently found a way to make us smile. Affable schoolboy looks aside, his collections are always a menagerie of bright “happy colors”, bold prints, and eclectic shapes. Gordon is a designer who knows how to spark joy, and his Fall 2020 Ready to Wear collection was no exception.

The show started modestly; models were covered with A-line cape dresses and floor-grazing ensembles belted with tasseled leather. The styling of the hair (middle part, covering the ears, pulled into a low ponytail) gave the looks a somewhat religious appearance, saved by a segue into tailored ruffles and finally our first print, bright yellow flowers dotted across a sheer black parachute dress with a high neckline and not a whisper of skin in sight. Youthful, colorful party dresses appeared including a green off the shoulder look with oversized pleated sleeves, a style Gordon has shown before and is no doubt a best seller. Lip colors popped in contrast to the dresses as the Carolina Herrera brand was also debuting their new customizable make-up line alongside Gordon’s Fall collection. The color story was so encompassing that when a short, black lace number interrupted the dresses it seemed almost out of place. Evening wear was modest in skin exposure, no exposed undergarments for the Herrera line thank you very much, shoulders did the talking in two gorgeously structured scoop neck dresses with black sleeves, the latter of the two with a white skirt embroidered with gigantic roses. Elegance and joy abound.
